The Project

The works were necessary to alleviate the flooding problems caused by field run offs during periods of heavy rain. This often lead to excessive water flowing across the A38 presenting a safety hazard to motorists.

We upgraded the existing drainage system to better cope with the more extreme conditions. We also took the opportunity to carry out some resurfacing work on the eastbound carriageway.

Some of the work was undertaken 'off highway', but the majority required a carriageway closure to allow the safe installation of the new drainage systems. In order to minimise disruption to the travelling public, the carriageway closures tookplace overnight and at weekends when traffic flows are at their lowest.

The works were completed in May 2009.
