Major Traffic Change at Marsh Leys Longabout
Traffic Management will change from 5am on Saturday 30th October. The cut through in the centre of the longabout will no longer be in use. Eastbound traffic will be directed around the longabout and on to the new eastbound on slip. Work will continue in adjacent lanes. Westbound traffic will be unaffected whilst finishing works are being completed.
These changes will be clearly signed but please be careful whilst adjusting to this new road layout.
Traffic signals will remain operational around the longabout.
The A421 from Marsh Leys to the M1 will remain open during these times.
A421/M1 Junction 13
- The majority of construction work has been completed around J13 of the M1. Localised traffic management will be required to complete permanent traffic signal works and remedials.
Marston Junction
- The majority of construction work has been completed around Marston Junction. Localised traffic management will be required to complete permanent traffic signal works and remedials.
Fields Road
- Temporary traffic signals are still required to complete permanent safety barrier installation between Manor Road and the longabout on the A421.
Marsh Leys Junction to A6/421 Junction
- Marsh Leys to A6/A421 junction tie in works are nearing completion. Further closures will be required to complete line markings and to accommodate the permanent switch of the eastbound traffic onto the new construction.
- Marsh Leys to the A6 junction will require the closures of both the eastbound exit slip road and the westbound entry slip road to accommodate various works.
- Marsh Leys longabout will require overnight lane switches to the existing traffic management to enable bridge inspections to be undertaken.
These planned closures may be subject to last minute changes should there be adverse weather or for unexpected operational reasons.
M1 Junction 13, Brogborough - General Information
As part of the scheme, the existing A421 at Junction 13 is being modified. The current signals will be replaced with a roundabout on the east side of the M1 whilst the roundabout on the west side will be re-aligned and increased in size. These works will increase traffic capacity at this busy junction. To carry out the works safely and to minimise disruption to road users, there will be a series of planned overnight slip road closures both northbound and southbound. These works are expected to be complete by July 2010.
M1 Junction 13
M1 Junction 13 overnight slip road closures for roundabout construction on the A421 at Junction 13. No more than two slip roads will be closed at the same time on any one night and advance warning signs will be displayed to give motorists notice of planned closures. The diversion route for motorway traffic will be either to Junctions 12 or 14 depending on which slip roads are closed and diversion routes will be clearly signed.
A421 40 MPH Temporary Speed Restriction
The A421 currently has one lane running in each direction and a temporary 40 mph speed restriction between the M1 at Junction 13 and the A6 for the safety of the workforce and road users. Average Speed Cameras are being used along the route to enforce the reduced speed limit.
A421 Marston Moretaine Prohibition of Right Turn
Right turn movements are prohibited into or out of the A421 at its junction with Bedford Road (C280) Marston Moretaine.
A421/B530
The A421/B530 roundabout (formerly known as the Interchange Retail Park roundabout) was partially closed from March 2009 allowing left turn movements only from or to the A421 eastbound carriageway. The junction was permanently closed on 3 June 2010 to allow for construction of the new dual carriageway. Traffic will be directed via the A6 and B530 to reach the Interchange Retail Park or other destinations.
