M5 Driver Location Signs
M5 Driver Location Signs
The Project
When?
Work started on 18th November 2008 and was completed on 20 March 2009.
What did we do?
Driver location signs was installed on the M5 between M6 Junction 8 and M5 Junction 9.
As part of the Highways Agency national strategy to reduce traffic delays on motorways, Driver Location Signs are being installed on verges at no more than 500 metre centres and on junction slip road verges.
These works affected 70 km length of the M5 between M 6 Junction 8 and M5 Junction 9.
Why do we need to do this work?
Driver location signs are being installed as part of the Highways Agency national strategy to reduce traffic delays and improve safety on motorways.
These signs will let drivers know exactly where they are if they break down, or want to report a problem on this section of motorway. If drivers telephone emergency services, breakdown recovery, or the Highways Agency Regional Control Centre for assistance and pinpoint their exact location, assistance can be provided more speedily. This facility will provide the travelling public with benefits in terms of reduced traffic congestion, delays and improved safety.
