The Project
This section of the M1 is a highly urbanised motorway with residential properties in close proximity to the southbound carriageway. The conifers along here were acting as a screen for residents however, as a result of storm damage and age, there were also gaps between them.
Also there were safety concerns over the long term safety and stability of the trees.
The work included the removal of dangerous trees, felling and the topping of mature trees (removal of crown leaving 6m high stump).
Enrichment planting has taken place to maintain the screening function of the plots.
Work started November 2008 and completed in February 2009.
