A419 Blunsdon Bypass Construction Progress

July 2008

General

The weather has affected construction progress over the last few weeks.  We have had several days of constant rain with over 100mm falling during the first two weeks of July.

Northbound Carriageway

The new northbound carriageway from Turnpike to the Castle Eaton Junction opened on the 30th June at approximately 23.15, with traffic being diverted onto the new carriageway via the completed Thamesdown to Lady Lane Link which is currently operating as one-way two lane diversion linking Turnpike Roundabout to the new northbound carriageway.  Traffic management arrangements have also changed within the Lady Lane area to allow for the additional movements arising from the new links.

Southbound Carriageway at Turnpike Roundabout

The current southbound traffic has been temporarily diverted onto the old northbound carriageway from the Lady Lane Junction to Turnpike roundabout, which has allowed us to recommence construction work to the northeast of Turnpike Roundabout.  Over this length we have planed out the existing southbound carriageway which will allow us to construct the sections of the new north and southbound carriageways which cross the existing A419 at this point.

Widhill Lane Bridleway Bridge

Work has recommenced at Widhill Lane Bridleway Bridge with the parapets being fixed to the deck.  This will now allow the structural waterproofing and expansion joints to be installed.
