A49 Dorrington Drainage and Re-Surfacing
A49 Dorrington Drainage and Re-Surfacing
The Project
Where
The scheme is located on the A49 through the village of Dorrington which is approximately 5 miles south of Shrewsbury.
When
The contract started on the 2 February 2009 with the works to the carriageway started on 16 February 2009 and was completed on 6 May 2009.
What did we do?
The drainage works involved refurbishment of the existing surface water system by re-lining of the pipes and the provision of a new outfall at Netley Bridge. An outfall is a place where a drain discharges waste water into the river.
The re-surfacing works involved removing out 150mm of the existing surfacing and replacing with new from 120m north of Lime Paddocks to Netley Bridge.
Why did we need to do this work?
The existing carriageway was showing signs of deterioration and the surface has becomed crazed. It had required numerous area of patching to keep it in a safe condition for the road user. There were areas of standing water during heavy rainfall.
The existing drainage system has evolved over many years, being added to as need has arisen. The system in its current state was inadequate and it was upgraded to prevent flooding.
