What has happened so far
With the opening of the A46 by pass in December, works have continued to the roundabout widening and slip road construction.
The dedicated slip roads on to the M40 northbound and A46 northbound are now open to traffic.
Junction 15 roundabout road widening is nearing completion together with traffic lights, traffic signs, road markings and verge works.
The tie-in works at both ends of the A46 by pass have been completed and temporary speed limits have been removed.
Works have continued to the old A46 Sherbourne access road and Watery Lane and Vicarage Lane are open to traffic. Work has commenced on the bridle way and footpaths beneath the new roundabout.
The B4463 has been closed to allow final construction to tie the new into the existing. Landscape planting has been ongoing throughout the site.
Environmental fencing on the A46 northbound is now complete.
The surrounding farmland which was utilised for earth to build the embankments is being restored.
What we are doing next
The next 3 months will see the conclusion of the site works.
Completion of the Junction 15 roundabout works is planned for late June. This will mean all temporary traffic management and speed limits will be removed. There may be some final adjustments made to the traffic light timing and sequence as the system is studied in full operation.
The works around the Sherbourne access road, bridle ways and footpaths will finish and opened together with the existing closed footpath by Sherbourne Brook. The bus stops on the A46 will open in late June.
There are some works at the Sherbourne Brook bridge and the new dragon fly ponds next to the new service road which is dependant on BT laying a new cable. These will not be completed until August.
The B4463 will be reopened on 18th June on completion of construction of the tie in at Sherbourne roundabout.
The spring planting of aquatic plants in the new wetlands has been delayed due to the exceptional cold winter and spring and will take place through June.
The restoration of the surrounding farmland will be complete in June.
Minor finishing works to the verges and other off-road areas will be ongoing during July.
The site compound will be removed and the land restored back to farming in July.
