 The Project

The previous structure at this location was constructed in 1971 to maintain farm access over the M4 between junctions 15 and 16.  The bridge did not meet current standards and was demolished in September 2008. A new, low maintenance foot/equestrian bridge was installed in May 2009 during a full motorway closure. The new structure improves safety for users with improved parapet protection and deck surface, and provides increased headroom over the hard shoulder for motorway users.

Future works will be undertaken to the bridge north of the motorway as part of the Wichelstowe Development.
