General
After a dreadful January, the weather has been good to us over the last few weeks and the works have started to progress again in a number of areas.
Turnpike Roundabout
You may have noticed activity within the Turnpike Roundabout area. To the east on the site of the old BP Garage, works for the new south bound carriageway have begun and on the west a part of the new balancing pond has been dug to allow the new drainage systems to be connected.
Widhill Lane Bridleway Bridge
The beams for Widhill Lane Bridleway Bridge were lifted into position on the 28th January as planned. Constructed using weathering steel, it will not be intention to paint the structure. Instead it has be been designed such that a small layer of rust will develop on the surface and this permanent layer will protect the steelwork below. Next for Widhill will the casting of the concrete deck later this month.

Lady Lane and Bridge
The road works at Lady Lane have been progressing well with the foundations for the road being placed in preparation for the tarmac surfacing to be laid.
For a short period at the end of January you may have noticed that the top of the new Lady Lane Bridge went blue! This was the waterproofing system that was sprayed on to the deck to protect the concrete below in preparation for the laying of the new Lady Lane across the bridge.
Chapel Farm Bridge and Access Road
Chapel Farm access road and under bridge were opened to the public on Tuesday 12th January and are now connected to the existing A419 with a temporary junction and temporary signs.
The opening of this new access will allow construction works to progress over the existing road and enable the tie-in works with the existing carriageway.
