The Project

The A40/A49 Wilton Roundabout, is near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire.

We have widened and realigned the approaches to the roundabout to make using the roundabout easier and safer. The footpaths around the roundabout wasl also be widened to enable better access for pedestrians. Anti-skid surfacing was laid on the A40 and A49 approaches to the roundabout to reduce the risk of skidding when braking. The signing around the roundabout was improved, with pedestrian warning signs introduced and the existing chevron signs replaced with new high-visibility chevron signs. We also added new lane markings on the roundabout to improve lane discipline.

Work started on 2 February 2009 and was completed on 31 March 2009.

Key Benefits for Public

The realigning of the A40 roundabout approaches and laying of high-friction surfacing will improve the safety of the roundabout. The improved road layout will reduce the speed of vehicles entering the roundabout and reduce the risk of accident. The new pedestrian warning signs, lane markings and high-visibility chevron signs will also help to increase the safety of the roundabout.
