A38 Harcombe to Exeter Racecourse Resurfacing
The Project
This section of the A38 to the south of Exeter was adapted from the old turnpike road to its present form in 1972.
The surface is now showing signs of fatigue and requires replacement. The eastbound carriageway is being resurfaced with low noise material in time for the summer holiday traffic season. The opportunity is also being taken to upgrade the safety barrier, improve drainage from the road and upgrade the road signs.
In order to minimise disruption to traffic, the works are being carried out overnight, between 8.00pm and 6.00am the following morning, on Sunday to Thursday nights inclusive. This is to avoid disruption to early holiday traffic travelling on Friday and Saturday nights.
Work was completed in August 2008.
