M56 Junction 7 - Review of Junction Layout
M56 Junction 7 - Review of Junction Layout
The Project
Although the alterations to the layout of junction 7 of the eastbound M56, which were introduced in September 2007, improved the situation for traffic merging from the A556, it was clear from the outset that the increased delays for mainline traffic meant that the layout was not working as it was intended to do.
We have now restored the main carriageway to three lanes. The free flow filter lane from the A556 has now been removed and replaced by a long auxiliary merge lane, which involves using a section of the hard shoulder as a running lane. Further details of the layouts can be seen via the link at the top of the page.
