Railway Bridge

Railway Bridge

The scheme has seen the use of an innovative design for the A390 railway bridge. The pre-cast concrete arch structure has been endorsed by Network Rail and will be used by them at other locations.

Bat Bridges

Bat Bridge

We are using the Dobwalls Bypass to pilot the use of special structures to help bats find their way across the new road. This is just one of a series of measures to reduce the environmental impact of the new road.

The new "bat bridges" consist of a metal structure with wires and mesh stretched in a u-shape. They replace the profile of the hedgerows and trees that bats previously followed using echo location to find their way to and from their roosts and their foraging areas. The bats can now follow the structures at a safe height above the traffic. The pilot project involves monitoring the structures for a period of five years to measure how successful this technique has been.
