A46 Ashchurch Junctions Improvements - Northway Lane
A46 Ashchurch Junctions Improvements - Northway Lane
Project
There are several junctions on the A46 at Ashchurch, Gloucestershire, which are operating at close to capacity or, by their nature, stop traffic from flowing smoothly. We have studied these junctions and identified four that would benefit travellers if they were improved. Because the junctions are close together, we need to improve all four junctions to see the full benefits.
These works will improve Northway Lane junction, which is controlled by traffic lights. We have added an extra lane in both directions at this junction for traffic travelling along the A46. This will reduce delays caused by traffic waiting to turn right.
We have also upgraded the traffic lights to include a Toucan crossing, allowing both pedestrians and cyclists to cross safely. We hope that this will encourage people to use the cycle path along the A46.
All works were completed on 19 December 2008.
The Pamington Lane junction was improved in early 2006 and we plan to improve the Forsheda junction at the same time as these improvements to Northway Lane. We plan to improve the Alexandra Way junction during 2008/09, if funds are available.
The main benefit of these schemes is to improve journey times, but the improvements should also reduce the number of accidents.
