The Project
Until recently, a Junctions 11a and 19 widening project was being developed, following consideration in 2004 to 2006 of an M6 tolled Expressway. However, a 2008 study was undertaken into the potential of a managed motorway alternative to widening, extending down to Junction 10a.
In January 2009, the Secretary of State for Transport (Geoff Hoon) announced a Managed Motorway strategy and identified a number of Projects that would be progressed over the next few years. M6 Junction 10a – 13 was announced as a scheme that would commence construction by 2015 and the remainder from M6 Junction 13 to 19 would form part of a longer-term strategy that is not expected to commence construction before 2015.
