The Project
The main purpose of barriers in the central reservation of motorways is to retain vehicles on the carriageway and reduce the risk of collision with vehicles on the opposite carriageway. The use of high containment concrete barrier improves safety by reducing the likelihood of a vehicle crossover. It is also is virtually maintenance free and has twice the life span of a traditional metal barrier.
Essential renewal work will be taking place between January and March 2010 to replace the current metal barrier between junction 15 and junction 17 with a concrete barrier. The new concrete central reserve will link with that currently under construction between junctions 17 and 18.
Traffic Management
In order to carry out these works, traffic management will be necessary for the safety of the workforce and the travelling public. Due to the high traffic levels in this area and the close proximity of the works to Almondsbury Interchange, some delays are expected particularly at peak times. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys or consider alternative travel options.
