The Project Control Framework

Area 4
Highways Agency - Area 4 Network
Area 4 encompasses the motorways and key trunk roads in Kent, Sussex and small parts of Surrey and Hampshire. This includes the M23, M20, M2 and many trunk roads including A27, A21 and A2.
The network includes a number of key international ports and airports, including Gatwick, Channel Tunnel, Dover and Folkstone and has direct links to the UK road network via the M25. Many of the routes carry a high proportion of heavy and light goods vehicles and there are high levels of seasonal south coast holiday traffic.
Comprising a total route length of 451km which includes 933 carriageway km (including slip roads), the network also includes 845 structures of which 497 are bridges or large culverts and two are tunnels.
The Area 4 network is managed by out Managing Agent Contractor InterRoute, a joint venture between Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services and Mott MacDonald.
