M62 - Your Local History

A lot of finds were uncovered during the archaeological evaluation carried out for the M62 Junction 6 Improvement scheme so we thought it would be nice to provide an interactive website so you can see what we found.

Trunk Road Crossing Points

During 2002/3 the Highways Agency worked with interest groups and local authorities to identify those points on the trunk road and motorway network where there was a potential difficulty for people wishing to cross the road. The list comprised a total of 1159 sites where further investigation would be warranted to confirm the exact nature of the problem and the potential for a viable solution to be implemented.

The Agency has made progress investigating and implementing improvements where appropriate, at 15% of identified sites. It should be noted that the delivery of identified solutions at the NMU sites is subject to the availability of funding. Identified improvement schemes have to be prioritised against other schemes within the Agency's works programmes. Details of the completed investigations are available by clicking on the relevant table below.
