We are looking ahead along a clear stretch of quiet motorway. A few cars travel away from us.
[Female Voice Over:] Phil always gets home in time to see his kids
As we track back, the camera reveals a stationary car with a dented bonnet. Marks on the road indicate that it was travelling fast before skidding to a halt. The driver door is flung open and the driver - Phil - gets out.
But today he was held up
Phil, his face drained white, is shaking. He looks beyond us then starts to walk towards us. As he does, the camera continues to track back keeping him in full frame throughout.
It wasn't the road works that slowed him down...
As we travel with him, more of the road is revealed. We see traffic cones designating the end of a closed off area. Further back we see roadworking tools, machinery and evidence of surface repairs. Phil quickens his pace. We keep up with him.
Or the temporary speed restrictions...
We can now see signs indicating speed restrictions. Phil starts to run, his eyes fixed on something behind us.
...it was Dave.
Phil stops, traumatised by what he now sees before him. We continue to track back, revealing two workmen in reflective coats and hard hats attending to the crumpled body of a colleague. One of the workmen is desperately trying to listen for a heartbeat.
Dave was just doing his job - making sure people like Phil do get home on time.
We leave the scene and track back further past a line of cars that have stopped safely, hazard lights flashing. A driver gets out to help. Someone is ringing the emergency services on a mobile.
But Phil ignored the warning signs and was travelling too fast...
We continue, past a line of stationary cars until we cannot see the accident anymore and come to a halt close to a sign warning of roadworks ahead.
...and now Dave won't be going home.
