M62 - Your Local History
A lot of finds were uncovered during the archaeological evaluation carried out for the M62 Junction 6 Improvement scheme so we thought it would be nice to provide an interactive website so you can see what we found.

Don't Cross or Walk Along Motorways
The Highways Agency aims to make more people aware of the dangers of walking or crossing our motorway. We have launched a poster and radio campaign aimed at 16-25yr olds. Hopefully with our hard hitting posters, our message will come across.

Non-Motorised User Audits
The Highways Agency considers the needs of non-drivers at all stages of trunk road projects and has developed a mandatory audit process so that conditions for non-drivers are considered when road schemes are carried out. Guidance has been produced which describes the stages at which the Agency should carry out NMU audits, the procedures to be followed and the issues of possible concern to non-motorised users.

NMU Provision
A further advice note has been produced to provide guidance in relation to provision for non-motorised users, through the design and implementation of both on- and off- carriageway provision including crossings, junctions and general design considerations.

Trunk Road Crossing Points
During 2002/3 the Highways Agency worked with interest groups and local authorities to identify those points on the trunk road and motorway network where there was a potential difficulty for people wishing to cross the road. We are continuing to investigate and, where appropriate make improvements to aid safe crossing.
