A lot of finds were uncovered during the archaeological evaluation carried out for the M62 Junction 6 Improvement scheme so we thought it would be nice to provide an interactive website so you can see what we found.

Don't Cross or Walk Along Motorways

The Highways Agency aims to make more people aware of the dangers of walking or crossing our motorway. We have launched a poster and radio campaign aimed at 16-25yr olds. Hopefully with our hard hitting posters, our message will come across.

Education

"EDUCATION, ENGINEERING, ENFORCEMENT"

The Highways Agency has safety at the heart of its education campaign.

We regard customer education as being central to the delivery of our core values, in the changing of habits and behaviours and supporting new initiatives and schemes to make our roads safer.

In late 2006 the Highways Agency launched its Safety Toolkit, resources to assist in this programme of safety education offering resources that can be used by the Agency or its stakeholders to promote a safer network for all.

With Citizenship becoming an ever higher priority for the curriculum in both Primary and Secondary schools, we believe that improving and increasing our customer education will contribute to improvements in safety on our roads.

The Highways Agency hasn't stopped its engineering role; however more people are asking for better information: "Why is this happening?", "What are its benefits", "How will this make our roads less congested and safer?"

We are supporting this with more information for young and old alike which look at motorcycling, company drivers HGV drivers and young drivers all of whom are on our roads each day.
