Recruitment
Thank you for your interest in the Highways Agency.
We are keen to recruit motivated and competent candidates who have drive, enthusiasm and a positive approach in addition to the skills and abilities to do the job – so we look forward to receiving your completed Application Form.
We encourage you to also complete the Diversity Monitoring Form, to help us to monitor the diversity profile of candidates and to ensure that our processes are free from bias and discrimination.
Please ensure that you have access to the following documents:
- The correct Application Form - there are different forms for different roles within the Agency
- Diversity Monitoring Form
- Guidance Notes for Application Form
- Job Specific Information/Advert
- Application Pack
Please be aware that the HA Application Form is in two parts. Use Section 1 for every recruitment campaign and the appropriate Section 2. Only use the Section 2 marked Abridged when specified in the advert as a CV campaign. If in doubt please contact your recruitment administrator.
Please ensure that you return your completed application form by the closing date as stated in the job advert. It's really important to give yourself plenty of time to complete and send your application form, as late applications will not be accepted.
Applying for a job
Please follow the options below depending on what type of job you are looking for:
- Find out more about applying for Traffic Officer Service related roles, or
- Read on if you applying for any other role within the Highways Agency.
FOR COMPETENCY-BASED CAMPAIGNS ONLY (NON-CV)
We use the information you supply in the application form (but not the Diversity Monitoring Form) to help us draw up a shortlist of candidates to be invited for interview. We will assess your application form carefully and take particular note of the information you provide in Section 2 part 2.6 'About your personal qualities' and Section 2 part 2.7 'About your skills and abilities for the job'.
When completing part 2.7, we advise you to use the 200-word limit for each essential requirement/competency to full effect. These essential criteria can be found in the person specification section of the job specification information sheet. You should provide a specific example of your suitability under each heading. Your responses need to provide evidence to demonstrate that you possess the essential requirements/competencies for the post. Simply stating you have good communication skills (for example) does not provide evidence.
Your specific example under each heading, should describe a situation, relevant to the competency, the particular actions you took (focussing on your personal contribution and involvement) and describing the outcome or results.
You must read the Notes of Guidance before completing the application form especially if you have never completed a competency based application form before.
Please contact us if you want further information about a particular post. We will be happy to help.
Good luck with your application and we look forward to receiving your completed Application Form and Diversity Monitoring Form either by e-mail or post.
