Support for the Renewable Energy Sector

ECGD is keen to support UK exporters of goods and services in the renewable energy sector.

Since 2003 ECGD has made available at least £50m of cover each year for creditworthy exports in the renewable energy sector.  This follows the commitment made by the government in 2002 at the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa to give developing countries better access to renewable energy technology.

ECGD has also made a number of changes in recent years that have improved our support for renewables:

• We have relaxed our foreign content rules so that we may cover up to 80 per cent of goods and services that are of foreign origin and form part of the UK exporter’s contract.
  
  
• Within the foreign content element of the contract ECGD can support local costs of up to 30 per cent.
  
  
• Depending on the rating and size of the contract, your buyer could benefit from up to 15 years credit.
  
  
• We are willing to consider support for contract values as low as £25,000 to hundreds of million pounds.
