Part 3: Pensioners

The Department’s PSA objective in respect of pensioners is to combat poverty and promote security and independence in retirement for today's and tomorrow's pensioners. The Department has one PSA target to support the delivery of this objective.

Pension Credit is already making a difference to the incomes of thousands of people aged 60 or over.

Over 3.1 million pensioners have taken up their entitlement to Pension Credit, with an average weekly award of more than £41.

Joint teams from The Pension Service and local authorities offer a holistic service helping more pensioners than ever before to gain from Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.
