IT information flows for local authorities project

top of page

Background to project

This project was set up to improve the IT links between DWP and local authorities. The project has replaced the existing Remote Access Terminals with a secure web-based link using either the Internet or the Government Secure Intranet network (GSI), depending on what the local authority already has in place. It allows local authority staff to access to DWP data via their existing desktop PCs. This project is a key strategic issue for DWP

The benefits of improving the link are significant.

Tax Credit Data

Tax Credit Data will begin to transfer on to CIS from 30 June 2008. However, due to the size of the caseload the transfer will take up to five days to complete. Therefore, LAs should not attempt to use Tax Credit Data obtained from CIS until 7 July 2008.

The following training package should be completed by all LA staff that has view access on CIS.

This material was issued to all LAs by the LA Support Team via email on the 11 June 2008. Any queries on the material should be directed to the LA Support Team: LA-ST@dwp.gsi.gov.uk

Impact of Claim End Dates on Relationship Information

Background

Following a number of queries received about personal relationships remaining open in SEF after the corresponding benefit award has closed. The following information explains why this is occurring.

All Personal Relationships data (e.g. partner, spouse, child/parent) held on CIS, originates from benefit awards feeds received from Heritage Benefit Systems i.e. PSCS, ISCS, DLACS, AACS, JSAPS and CACS.

Issue

Although the creation of the relationship data is obtained from the award feed, on cessation of the benefit award the end date for the relationship is not automatically sent to CIS by the Heritage Benefit system.

Users, accessing CIS records via SEF, e-SEF, or via their respective Customer Account Management system, may observe some Customer Records where a relationship(s) attributed to a benefit type remains open while the corresponding Business Interest has ended.

NB This issue does not impact on the accuracy of the data held on the Heritage Benefit System.

CIS Support

From Monday 4 June 2007, the LA Support Team in Lytham will deal with all CIS related issues. These include issues previously dealt with by the IT Information Flows Project team, for example:

The ITIFLA project email address box qh.itiflaproject@dwp.gsi.gov.uk will therefore be closed from this date.

Guide, Deskaids and Forms

Amendments were made in January 2007 to the LA CIS Guide, Deskaids and Forms. Further amendments have now been made to the following documents:

All existing versions should be destroyed and the new documents used with immediate effect.

Homeworkers

All requests for home-workers/remote workers should be made via LAST.

For all new requests for home-workers that do not currently access CIS, an “Additional Staff request” form should be completed and issued to LAST. LAST will confirm when the new home-workers staff can begin to access CIS.

If staff already access to CIS from the LA office and are going to start accessing from home, the LA should notify LAST of the planned start date. LAST will confirm when these staff can commence accessing CIS from home.
