Jerry Arnott

Director of Organisational Capability Centre of Expertise, Corporate HR

Name: Jerry Arnott

Time at DWP: 5 months

Before DWP:

  • Studied Behavioural Science and subsequently worked in this field
  • Own coaching and consultancy business immediately before joining DWP

Leadership role

To look at and address the people development issues within DWP, with a particular focus on developing leaders and managers, building a talent pipeline, supporting change, delivering excellent learning services and, above all developing the organisation.

“I'm really glad to have joined DWP.”

I wanted to use my private sector experience in a large public sector organisation. But it had to be an organisation whose mission I believed in and whose core values I shared. I wanted to ‘give something back’ to society.

I’m also very interested in change, and in an organisation like DWP there is constant need for change. I like the scale and feel of organisational capacity in such a large organisation.

There is a still lot of room for improvement, both in my own area and the Department as a whole, but I believe strongly in the DWP agenda.

Despite being a bit challenged by the cultural differences between public-sector and private-sector practices, I am really glad to have joined DWP. I know I made the right decision.

The Department as a whole is incredibly welcoming and friendly. Colleagues have all helped me to settle in and I work in a very courteous environment, which is not always the case in private organisations!
