William Laird appears on a Board of Trade list dated April 1918 as Private, 3rd Battalion Gordon Highlanders attached 1st Battalion, having been promoted Corporal. 

He is also commemorated on the Patent Office Memorial 1914-1918, now hanging at Concept House, Newport.
