Social Enterprise
Research on mapping social enterprise
In Spring 2003, DTI commissioned a research report to review
knowledge of the social enterprise sector and develop guidance
on mapping social enterprise. Guidance on Mapping Social Enterprise
was completed in July 2003. As well as a review of current knowledge
of the sector, it highlights existing good practice, makes recommendations
to improve the comparability and consistency of data collected
as part of regional or local studies and recommends a methodology
for undertaking a UK-wide social enterprise mapping project.
DTI has published a short good practice guide drawing out the
recommendations contained in the detailed research report, Guidance
on Mapping Social Enterprise. Collecting
Data on Social Enterprise: a guide to good practice is designed
to help regional and local bodies collect comparable data on social
enterprise, whether as part of a focussed study on social enterprise
or wider research into the social economy or business community.
DTI's Social Enterprise Unit is taking forward a project to establish
baseline data on social enterprise across the UK in line with
the recommendations developed in Guidance
on Mapping Social Enterprise.
