Manufacturing Forum

What we do

The role of the Forum is to ensure the effective implementation and evolution of the Manufacturing Stategy, originally published in May 2002.

The government's manufacturing strategy

A Review was undertaken two years later to review progress and to promote a more strategic approach towards implementing the action plan.

Review of the Government's manufacturing strategy: competing in the global economy, the manufacturing strategy two years on

The Forum brings together Government, industry, trade unions, Regional Development Agencies, and other stakeholders to support manufacturing.

At its first meeting in December 2004, the Forum agreed to focus specifically on three priority areas: skills, public procurement, and image of manufacturing. It has instigated new research into all three of these areas. In its most recent meeting on 2 March 2006, the Forum added investment to its key priorities.

The Forum

  • Monitors the progress of the Manufacturing Strategy and comments on and helps steer policy that impacts on manufacturing
  • Engages actively in areas where increased participation of business, unions and other stakeholders can make a significant impact
  • Helps to promote key messages on manufacturing and develop the profile of the manufacturing sector
