Welcome to BERR's electronics and IT services sector website

ELECTRONICS AND IT SERVICES - WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH INDUSTRY

BERR works in partnership with key stakeholders across the Electronics and IT Services sectors.  Together we strive to enhance the performance of the sectors through constructive dialogue and appropriate action.

The Unit aims to build strong relationships and credibility with stakeholders who can influence the corporate strategy and performance of the rest of their sectors by influencing policy and identifying sector wide concerns.

What are the sectors?

The Electronics, Software and IT Services sectors include companies that:

• Design and manufacture electronics products and services
• Design and manufacture electronics products and services
• Design and manufacture electronics products and services
• Produce generic software for the business and domestic market
• Produce bespoke software for commercial and public sector clients
• Install systems software for commercial and public sector clients
• Provide consultancy services for business and the public sector leading to software solutions

These industries are central to our work, leisure and communications and increasingly affect every aspect of living.  The sectors are important in their own right, accounting for around 4% of the UK's gross domestic product and employing around 1 million people.  Their impact is even greater as a source of innovation and new thinking.

What can we do for you?

The Electronics and IT Services Team aims to make a positive difference to the sectors’ productivity and competitiveness by:

• Providing an effective channel between business and Government
• Underpinning this with high quality analysis and an understanding of business
• Working with business to crystallise views on future strategy, growth potential, drivers and challenges - in particular through our Innovation and Growth Teams
• Using these relationships and this knowledge to influence domestic and European policy and regulation, so that it takes account of business performance issues while achieving it’s goals
• Working with business to secure buy-in and help in implementing Government policy

How do we work with business?

We work in partnership with business through major stakeholders (250+ employees) and employer organisations. These include:
