BERR works continuously to make the operating environment for bioscience companies in the UK a supportive one. This means influencing many complex and technical Directives and regulations coming from the European Union, and making sure that they are based on sound science and that requirements are measurable and enforceable. Our aim is always to ensure that the regulations provide a predictable base so that industry can forward plan. EU biotechnology regulation began in 1970s and reflects continuing public concerns about safety and ethics.
Recognising the need to assemble all the existing regulations for biotechnology in one easily accessible information point, BERR has funded the development of the Biotechnology Regulatory Atlas
