Support for Businesses

BERR is committed to fully utilise and build on existing business support to help companies of all sizes to maximise the opportunities of supplying goods and services for the Games. We call it "getting fit" to supply.

We are working with regional partners to ensure companies across the UK know about procurement opportunities and understand the processes involved in supplying to Government.

We are doing this in a variety of ways:

Companies can register on the website and receive alerts of contract opportunities.
  • Business Link
Through the regional Business Link service, companies can access help in assessing their strengths and weaknesses and in improving their overall performance, as well as learning how government procurement works.
  • BERR Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS)
MAS provides direct help through its regional centres. The range of assistance includes a free one-day on-site diagnostic visit by a manufacturing specialist, 10 days' in-depth consultancy, training and workshops.

Every company, even those that do not win contracts to supply the Games, will benefit from the support they receive to "get fit" to supply. This will put them in a better position to tender for other government contracts, currently worth some £150 billion each year. Businesses will be able to get information about other government procurement opportunities from www.supply2.gov.uk, a new government-backed website.
