Exports and Inward Investment

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is the government business development organisation dedicated to supporting UK companies to trade internationally, and to facilitating overseas enterprises wishing to invest in the UK. It will maximise the opportunities for UK businesses to supply the Games and use the Games to promote the UK as an attractive place for inward investment.

In keeping with the theme of science, technology and innovation - one of the core aims of the Government's strategy to reap maximum economic benefit from the Games - UKTI will undertake activities at appropriate events. These include CEBIT (the world's major ICT event) and ITU (the largest global telecommunications event). UKTI will host trade seminars, scoping missions and "Meet the Buyer" events. It will also sponsor a series of inward visits.

UKTI will host a Games microsite on its website as well as producing marketing materials for use around the world.

It already provides UK businesses with help and advice on all aspects of international trade through more than 40 offices in the UK and an extensive network of dedicated staff based at British Embassies, Consulates and High Commissions. This help will highlight the business opportunities presented by the Games wherever possible.

At the same time. UKTI's Sports Infrastructure Sector Team will continue its work to raise awareness amongst UK companies of the wide range of opportunities arising from similar major sports events being held overseas. This will be achieved through:

  • seminars/workshops
  • market reports
  • inward and outward missions

The Sector Team will work proactively with UK companies securing work from the Games to promote their capability to overseas markets. This will include inclusion in a web-based UK database of companies, products and services.
