UK's International Engagement

The Office of Science and Innovation's International role has two main objectives:

  • To plan, develop and manage UK involvement in the European Union's science and technology activities; and
  • To develop and strengthen such links with major scientific partners across the world, on a bilateral and multilateral basis, as hold the most promise of a scientific, commercial or political return to the UK.

In respect of the European Union, our main activity is to oversee UK participation in the EU's Seventh Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development (FP7).

We are also responsible for managing government-to-government science and technology relations with countries and international organisations globally.

In addition, we are defining an international strategy for science and innovation.
