Daphnet is a free mailing list based in the UK, for and about women in science, engineering and technology. It was named after eminent physicist Daphne Jackson, former president of the Women's Engineering Society (among many other prestigious posts), and is hosted by Imperial College, London. Any member can send a message to the list and it will be distributed to the 250 members, which includes women at all stages of their careers and also a few men. Non-members may submit items for inclusion to the Daphnet Manager (email address on the website). Many of the items come via the Women's Engineering Society (WES) and the Association for Women in Science and Engineering (AWiSE).
Daphnet members receive between four and eight messages per week on topics of particular relevance to women in science, engineering and technology. Many members are experienced professionals and can offer advice to women looking to get into science or to return after a career break.
Jobs are often distributed via Daphnet, including PhD's, postdocs and research posts all over the world. While the UK currently has few jobs specifically for women scientists, jobs from known women-friendly sources are included in the mailings. Daphnet is an email service only. To join the list, visit the web site which can be found under external links.
WISE aims to attract more girls and women into SET and construction, to support other organisations that enable girls and women to advance their careers and to support other organisations that ensure girls and women stay in the SET and construction sectors.
