UK US Initiative
The DTI Five Year programme set out a commitment to promote links between UK universities and US based high technology clusters. £6m has been allocated to this activity to develop and improve existing collaborations between leading UK universities and US partners and is supporting:
Imperial College London who will work with the University of Texas on experimental cancer medicine and clinical trials in cancer patients; and the Georgia Institute of Technology and Oak Ridge National Laboratory on clean, secure energy.
Cambridge - will build on the achievements of the Cambridge-MIT Institute (CMI) to develop new courses for engineering and biology, evaluate the impact of the teaching of these subjects and deliverer training courses for industry managers working with universities and for mid career women.
Manchester - will work with University of Washington and other partners on the development of materials for aircraft construction.
SETsquared (a consortia of the universities of Bath, Bristol, Southampton and Surrey) will work with the University of California to help businesses in the South West to access international markets and venture capital and to promote University-industry collaborations on research.
