The Post Office Network
With around 14,500 branches across the country, the post office network (managed by Post Office Limited) is the UK's biggest retail chain, and is larger than all of the UK's banks and building societies put together. With the unprecedented accessibility of this network Government recognises the important role that post office branches play in the everyday life of its customers. POL is working hard to turn its business around after several years where it has made large financial losses.

® Your Guide
In conjunction with its partners, the post office network offers over 170 products and services, including phonecards and mobile phone top-ups, home phone services, travel and financial services (including personal loans, car and home insurance), banking, bill payments, lottery products, licence applications and postal services. It is the largest supplier of foreign currency in the UK, with a 25% market share, and a leading provider of travel insurance.
The Government remains fully committed to a viable network of post offices across the country and is fully aware that the sub-post office plays a valuable role in local communities, particularly for the less mobile. However, neither the Government of Post Office Limited can keep individual post offices open if they are not being sufficiently used.
