Postal
Services Act 2000 (Consequential Modifications No.1) Order 2001 [S.I.2001/1149]
&
Postal Services Act 2000 (Consequential Modifications) Order 2003 [S.I.2003/2908]
These Orders make
consequential and supplementary modifications to primary and secondary
legislation in connection with the commencement of the Postal Services Act 2000.
In particular they modify references to terms like "Post Office" and
"Postmaster" which ceased to be relevant on the entry into force of
the 2000 Act, and make other changes to compliment the modifications brought
about by the Act (supplementing some of the modifications contained in Schedule
8 to the Act). In view of the history of the Post Office there were many
thousand such terms to be dealt with. These were dealt with in three main ways:
-
by the specific amendments set out in paragraphs 8 to 27 of Schedule 8 to the Act;
-
by the "general glosses" set out in paragraphs 1 to 7 of Schedule 8 to the Act;
-
by the Consequential Modification Orders made under section 127(1) and 128(1) of the Act.
It is not planned that there will be any further Orders making modification to primary and secondary legislation as a consequence of the 2000 Act.
