Postal Services Act 2000 (Commencement No.4 and
Transitional and Savings Provisions) Order 2001 [S.I.2001/1148]

This set the commencement date of all the remaining substantive provisions of the Postal Services Act 2000 together with the transitional and saving arrangements for the superseded legislation - particularly as regards mail in transit on 25/26 March 2001. It also brought into force on the 25 March 2001 the section (s116) dealing with the PostCode Address file so as to put beyond doubt (prior to the changes occurring around midnight on 25 March 2001) the identity of the owner of the file referred to in the Act.
A further commencement order is to be made to bring into effect the remaining repeals set out in Schedule 9 of the Postal Services Act 2000 - this will probably coincide with an Order to be made under section 75 of the Act, dissolving the old Post Office (the shell organisation left behind when the business was transferred to a plc).
