Directions to the Nuclear Decommissioning
Authority
Under the 2004 Energy Act directions are the method by which the
Secretary of State gives the NDA responsibility to carry out its
principal functions. The directions therefore identify what the NDA is
to be responsible for and what it has to do in respect of a designated
site, installation or facility. Designation directions were made on 3
December 2004 (Calder Hall is included in the Sellafield direction and
Culham has not been designated at this time) and will come into force on
1 April 2005. To view the directions please click here.
State Aid Announcement
On 1 December, the European Commission announced the beginning of its
formation investigation into State Aid to the NDA. The Commission's
decision follows the notification in December 2003 by the UK Government
that it intends to provide State Aid to the NDA. To read more about the
Commission's announcement, please click here.
