Meg Munn MP
Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Women and Equality
- Meg Munn was elected in June 2001 as the Labour / Co-operative
MP for Sheffield Heeley and is Chair of the Co-operative Group of
MPs. Meg Munn joined the Department for Trade and Industry
ministerial team as Deputy Minister for Women and Equality in May
2005 having been Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the
Minister for Children, Margaret Hodge, and chair of the Women’s
Committee of the Parliamentary Labour Party.
- Meg Munn was brought up in the constituency she now represents.
She went on to study at York University and later at Nottingham
University. As a trained social worker Meg Munn worked in
Berkshire, Nottinghamshire, Barnsley, Wakefield and York. Meg Munn
was a City Councillor in Nottingham between 1987 and 1991, and
before becoming an MP she was the Assistant Director for
Children’s Services at the City of York Council.
- Meg Munn’s interests include social enterprise, education,
children and young people, social welfare and Europe. She has been
a member of the Labour Party for over 30 years and a member of the
Co-operative Party for over 20 years.
- Meg Munn has been an active member of the Methodist Church for
over 25 years. She is also multi-lingual, speaking fluent French
and German and conversational Italian.
