e-Science makes weather forecasts available for search and rescue
An e-Science project is enabling the use of near real-time Met Office forecasts to predict the drift of a person who has fallen overboard. This prototype system is to be developed further in the Met Office-led DEWS project (Delivering Environmental Web Services), a £2.2 million DTI Inter-Enterprise Computing project. Read more

Research Grant awarded by DTI as part of CAST 2 Project.
TranscenData Europe has been selected to join Airbus UK, BAE SYSTEMS, Frazer-Nash Consultancy, Aircraft Research Association (ARA), QinetiQ and the Universities of Southampton and Swansea as part of the CAST 2 project. The group has been awarded a substantial research grant by the DTI as part of its environmentally friendly transport initiative (13th July 2005). Click here for the full article.

Grid Computing Knowledge Transfer Network Launch - 6 July 2005
The Grid Computing Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) is aimed at UK organisations from all sectors to enable them to take advantage of the significant advances being made in the grid computing field. The project will develop and maintain a web infrastructure, create a network of interested members and run a series of events aimed at sharing experience and improved understanding of the field. It is targeted at business owners, business advisers and senior IT leaders with responsibility for strategy and investment decisions.

The evening will feature an outline of the plans for the Knowledge Transfer Network, a demonstration of the web infrastructure and poster displays/demonstrations from several Collaborative R&D projects in the Inter-Enterprise Computing field, sister projects to the Grid Computing KTN. SMMT to support £250,000 University of Exeter plastics recycling research
As part of its commitment to meeting ELV recycling and re-use obligations, SMMT is to play a key role in a new study into the re-use of plastics in car making. The DTI Technology Programme has awarded a £250,000 grant to fund a team of researchers and engineers at the University of Exeter which will lead a consortium of industry and academia.
