The DTI’s
Export Control & Non Proliferation (XNP) Directorate’s
Services Review Report completed in January 2005 has now
been published in response to a request under the Freedom of
Information Act.
The Directorate last year
initiated a review into how best they could continue to
deliver high-quality cost-effective services to Ministers
and to industry in view of the constraints on resources.
The review included the extent to which it might be feasible
to contract out some or all of its functions to a private
sector provider.
A decision has not yet been taken on
the consultants' recommendations. And because in many
respects thinking has moved on since the
Report was written it should not be assumed that the
report's conclusions would necessarily be implemented as
recommended.
There are some
minor deletions from the original containing commercial
judgements/assessments which have been removed under section
43 of the Freedom of Information Act so as not to
risk prejudicing any future tender process.
