Radioactive Sources: Introduction of an Order under the Export Control Act 2002 to control the export of certain high-activity radioactive sources

The Department of Trade and Industry plans to introduce an Order to control exports of certain high-activity radioactive sources as defined under the International Atomic Energy Agency Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources (IAEA/CODEOC/2004).

It is now seeking the views of industry and others on the likely impact of such a proposal and how it can ensure that the proposed operational procedures do not unnecessarily burden industry and others.

The following is a link to the full consultation document on DTI’s main website:

http://www.dti.gov.uk/consultations/consultation-1581.html

This consultation will be of particular interest to manufacturers and distributors of the specified radioactive sources and others in the business of exporting radioactive sources.

Responses to the consultation must be received by 5 May 2006.
