The Export Control Organisation is changing its telephone enquiry service with effect from 2 October 2006 so as to respond more effectively to enquiries.
Over the last 12 months or so, calls to the ECO helpline have slowed significantly. In addition, many of the queries are now very general and can be easily answered by referral to our website. If not, they are so specific that they need a more considered response by email, fax or letter.
Our website has recently been enhanced to provide better information on applications and the licensing process. Two new tools, Goods Checker which can help you determine whether your goods need a licence and OGEL checker which can help you decide whether an OGEL is applicable to your export can also be found on the site. A link to OGEL Checker is on the right. We have also added to our website specific information about firearms- a link is on the right and have published a new "Beginners Guide to Export Controls" a link to the guide can be found on the right.
The helpline number will now carry a recorded message giving pointers to our website and our email and fax addresses. Any emails sent to ECO.Help@dti.gov.uk will receive an out of office acknowledgement with pointers to the most used parts of our website; where the relevant information cannot be found on the website, the enquiry will be answered within two working days of receipt. Any faxes or letters received will also be answered within two working days from receipt.
Please let us have feedback on this new service via the help mailbox.
