What are the Structural and Cohesion Funds?
The Structural and Cohesion Funds are the European Union’s main
instruments for supporting social and economic restructuring
across the EU. They account for over one third of the
European Union budget and are used to tackle regional
disparities and support regional development through actions
including developing infrastructure and telecommunications,
developing human resources and supporting research and
development.
Structural Funds in the UK
The
UK has been allocated over £10 billion (at 1999 prices) in

Agreement

The current cycle of Structural Funds programmes will come
to an end in 2006 and EU Member States have been
negotiating on the reform of the Funds prior to the next

Presidency reached an agreement on the next EC budget,
including future Structural and Cohesion Funds
