The European Structural Funds

UK PRESIDENCY OF THE EUROPEAN UNION
CONFERENCE REGIONAL AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES (2007-2013) DELIVERING THE LISBON AND GOTHENBURGAGENDAS

As part of the UK’s Presidency of the European Union, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs held a Conference to discuss the contribution that the next cycle of EU Structural Funds and Rural Development Programmes can make towards achieving the Lisbon and Gothenburg objectives.

The Conference was hosted by Alun Michael, the UK Minister of State for Industry and the Regions, and by Jim Knight, the UK Minister for Rural Affairs, Landscape and Biodiversity, on 7- 8 November 2005 at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, Newcastle.

The Conference provided a timely opportunity to discuss the development of Member States’ National Frameworks for the Structural Funds and to exchange views on how best to target future regional and rural development spending in order to make the greatest contribution to achieving the Lisbon and Gothenburg targets.

The Conference was attended by a cross-section of senior policymakers, academics and representatives from the voluntary and non-governmental sectors.
We have posted Conference documents on this website, including the programme, discussion paper, biographies of speakers and speeches and presentations made during the Conference.
