PUBLIC CONSULTATION

YOUNG WORKERS DIRECTIVE - END OF UK OPT-OUTS (URN 00/1461) Consultation Document on amendments to the Working Time Regulations 1998 following the ending of the UK specific opt-out from certain provisions of the EC Directive on the Protection of Young People at Work 94/33/EC ("The Young Workers Directive")

This document sets out the Government's objectives in implementing those provisions of the Young Workers Directive (YWD) from which the UK had previously opted out, and discusses various options for implementation, including the extent to which use should be made of the available derogations and which sectors they should be applied to. The Government expects to draw up draft Regulations to implement the provisions of the YWD in the light of the responses received to this consultation.

You are invited to make comments on these proposals. Specific questions are raised in the text, though you are welcome to make comments on any other aspects.

Please note that we shall assume that you do not mind your response being made public unless you advise us otherwise. If you want all or part of your response to be treated as confidential please say so clearly in your reply. Responses should be sent by Friday, 30 March 2001 to:
