Flexible Working and Work-Life Balance

The Government is committed to encouraging the growth of flexible working and other work-life balance policies in the UK. These can benefit everyone:

  • employers - many say that they have benefited from pursuing such policies

  • employees - are able to better balance their family responsibilities with work

The Government's approach has been to raise awareness of best practice and share experience of different companies' practices combined with targeted and light-touch legislation.

For more information on the flexible working law for parents ("the right to request and duty on employers") see http://www.dti.gov.uk/er/workingparents.htm

For more information on best practice, including the business case, how to guidance, case studies and links to other sites see http://www.dti.gov.uk/bestpractice/people/flexible-working.htm
