More . . .

‘Education must enable us to respond positively to the opportunities and challenges of the rapidly changing world in which we live and work. In particular, we need to be prepared to engage as individuals, parents, workers and citizens with economic, social and cultural change... with new work and leisure patterns and with the rapid expansion of communication technologies.’

Values and purposes underpinning the school curriculum – National Curriculum for England

Wider curriculum

Many opportunities exist within the wider curriculum to develop pupils' enterprise and entrepreneurial skills, and so better prepare them for this changing world. Projects can involve curriculum projects, cross-curricular activities, off-timetable events, clubs or holiday projects.

Characteristics of enterprise are discussed further in About enterprise.

It provides opportunities for pupils to:
Bullet consider their own future careers
Bullet learn about the range of possibilities for employment and self employment
Bullet recognise their own strengths and areas for improvement
Bullet recognise the relevance of their school studies to their future working lives

Learning about enterprise – helps pupils develop an understanding of enterprise in business and the wider community.

It provides opportunities for pupils to:
Bullet meet and work with entrepreneurs from the community and understand the skills and attributes of entrepreneurs
Bullet find out about how to set up and manage a small business

Learning for enterprise – provides an opportunity for pupils to develop and practice entrepreneurial skills.

It provides opportunities for pupils to:
